How are you
doing with your 2010
Intentions? Are you in
love with the life you're
living so far this year?
I've written
before about how important
it is to create your own
unique definition of
success. We find
ourselves in a state of
dissatisfaction when we try
to live by someone else's
definition of success.
Today I'd like to help you
determine what
you've done to create a true
feeling of success for
yourself in the past.
And encourage you to apply
the "lessons" contained in
that success to the goals
you have this year.
I was
introduced to a pretty
simple exercise recently
that's very helpful here.
I'd like to share it with
you today as you think about
your 2010 goals.
Think of a time in your life
when you really felt
successful. It doesn't
matter when it was or how
old you were. Nor does it
matter whether someone
else would define that
moment as successful.
What's important is that
you felt truly
successful at that moment or
time in your life. Just go
with the first answer that
comes to mind.
Now, think
of 5 most important things
you did that led up to that
successful moment.
Allow me to share an example
from my own life to show you
how this works. The
successful moment that came
to my mind was when I was
asked to be the keynote
speaker at a women's
conference a couple years
ago.
As I
reflected on that moment, I
realized that one thing I
did was state my desire to
"someday" be the event's
main speaker to the event
organizer. I was also very
helpful to her when she told
me she was planning the
event, offering suggestions
and feedback on her plans.
Another thing I did was give
my absolute best as a
breakout speaker at the
event in past years -- and
the reason I was at
my best was that I was fully
present and "in the moment"
while I delivered those
workshops.
I
also realized that I was
just being myself through
the entire process -- doing
what came very naturally to
me and never trying to be
someone else to impress
anyone. And lastly, I
realized I was very prepared
-- in this case
meaning I had done a lot of
personal growth work myself,
which allowed me to be of
valuable service to the
women at her event.
So, here are
the 5 unique success factors
I discovered:
-
State what I want
-
Be helpful
-
Be fully present
-
Be authentic
-
Be prepared
Here's the
fun part - if I apply these
success factors to
anything I'd like to
create in my life or
business, I can create the
same feeling of success I
had in that moment!
I invite you
to uncover your
unique Success Strategies
and to use them to
create the kind of year
you'd like to have!
